Patrick J. Collins
Interim President and CEO
Patrick J. Collins was recently appointed on an interim basis to oversee the operations of LexisNexis Canada. Based in Markham, Ontario, he has wide-ranging experience as an executive leader at several media organizations and in the telecommunications, transportation and manufacturing sectors.
Prior to joining LexisNexis, Pat held various roles at Torstar Corporation, including President, CityMedia Group, and Publisher of The Hamilton Spectator. He managed operations of three city newspapers, 12 weekly newspapers and three city magazines with a total weekly circulation of 1.5 million. Previous roles involved providing leadership and support in financial management, information technology, project management and strategy for the $1 billion newspaper operations of Torstar Corporation.
Pat has also served as Vice President, Community and Donor Development, for the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation. A member of the Board of Governors of the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Pat has held numerous Board and Director positions for corporations and non profits.
Pat holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Windsor. He has also completed the General Electric Financial Management Program.
Donna Ashton
Vice President, Operations
Based in Kingston, Ontario, Donna Ashton oversees Quicklaw™ content operations, workflow and inventory management, and data fabrication. In addition, her responsibilities include hardware and software acquisition and maintenance of the LexisNexis Canada data centre.
Donna joined the staff of the QUIC/LAW project (the forerunner of the Quicklaw service) in 1969, working at Queen’s University in Kingston. QL Systems Limited was incorporated in 1973 to operate Quicklaw as a commercial service. When family commitments prevented Donna from moving to Ottawa that year when QL Systems opened its first offices there, she moved to the Queen’s University Accounting Office. In 1974, QL Systems opened an office in Kingston, and Donna joined the company in the capacity she had held previously with the QUIC/LAW project. Donna has played a pivotal role in the operation of Quicklaw since its beginnings, and in 2001 she was appointed to her present position.
Alan Dingle
Vice President, Corporate Development
Alan Dingle is responsible for LexisNexis Canada’s overall strategy for Client Development, Practice Management and Litigation Services solutions. Based in the Markham, Ontario, head office, Alan also oversees product development, management and business development activities within these product lines.
Alan came to LexisNexis through the acquisition in 2002 of Quicklaw Inc., which he joined in 1986. At Quicklaw, Alan progressed from various roles in Customer Service and Sales to Vice President, Marketing. He began at LexisNexis as Vice President, Marketing and Communications, and in 2005 moved to the newly created position of Vice President, Corporate Development. In this role, he has successfully built a new department to introduce products in Client Development, Practice Management and Litigation Services to the Canadian market. Alan served on LexisNexis Group’s former Global Marketing Council and serves as the Canadian representative on LexisNexis Global Solution Line groups.
Alan regularly attends industry events and manages several relationships with industry associations. He also manages the Distributor Channel in Canada comprising Certified Independent Consultants who represent LexisNexis products across Canada.
Alan completed the law program at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.
Sharon Henley
Director, Human Resources
Sharon Henley brings a change management focus to her role as Director, Human Resources, shaping the company’s internal culture to drive business growth. She is based in the Markham, Ontario, head office.
Sharon joined LexisNexis as a human resources coordinator in 1999. Later, as human resources manager, Sharon was instrumental in uniting the business strategies and practices of LexisNexis Butterworths and Quicklaw Inc., which merged in 2002 to become LexisNexis Canada. She consistently draws talented, confident people to the LexisNexis team and continually modernizes the HR structure to help the company become a top global enterprise.
Before joining LexisNexis, Sharon held HR positions at Pitney Bowes and in the Legal Department at Beaver Lumber. Throughout her career, she has progressed to increasingly senior roles.
Sharon holds a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
Meena Mackie
Chief Financial Officer
Meena Mackie joined LexisNexis Canada in 2002 as Chief Financial Officer. Meena came to LexisNexis as part of the company’s purchase of Quicklaw Inc. She joined Quicklaw as CFO in 2000 when the company was planning to complete an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Based in Kingston, Ontario, Meena has successfully guided LexisNexis Canada financially and has been a key participant in matters relating to strategy, operations and company direction.
Before Quicklaw and LexisNexis, Meena held increasingly progressive roles within the software development industry starting in 1994 as Controller at Andyne before and after it was purchased by Hummingbird. As Controller, she was responsible for the preparation of all external reports including financial statements in Canadian and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial information for quarterly board of directors’ packages and financial information for the public offering of securities. She performed the consolidation of financial statements for Hummingbird and several international subsidiaries including accounting for three acquisitions in 1999. She was responsible for monthly financial reporting packages for all subsidiary offices and for financial and administrative matters relating to the Kingston office of Hummingbird.
Meena’s previous experience includes finance and accounting leadership roles in private industry as well as in public accounting at KPMG in Kingston. Meena began her career with IBM Canada.
Meena obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University in 1987 and a Chartered Accountant designation in 1989. She is past president of the Eastern Ontario Chartered Accountants Association and has volunteered as a business advisor for Junior Achievement, which delivers business education programs for young people.
Murray McDonald
Vice President, Systems
Murray McDonald has overseen software development, maintenance, networking and technical support since 1999, when he was appointed Vice President, Systems, at Quicklaw Inc., later purchased by LexisNexis. Murray is based in Kingston, Ontario.
Murray joined QL Systems Limited (forerunner of Quicklaw Inc.) full-time in 1980, moving in 1984 to Alcan Canada Rolled Products Ltd. in the role of Database Administrator. He rejoined QL Systems in 1986 as Manager of System Support. In 1990, Murray was promoted to the position of Director, Systems, assuming responsibility for long-term software development projects.
Murray holds a B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Computing and Information Science from Queen’s University in Kingston.
Judy Vezmar
CEO, LexisNexis Europe, Canada, Latin America and Africa
Judy Vezmar is Chief Executive Officer of LexisNexis Group ECLA. Judy is responsible for LexisNexis business units in the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Canada, Africa and Latin America. Those business units include LexisNexis Butterworths U.K., LexisNexis France JurisClasseur, and LexisNexis in Poland, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, South Africa, Argentina, Chile and Mexico. She is based in London.
Judy joined LexisNexis from Xerox Corporation where she held various roles including senior vice president & general manager of Financial Services Industry, Xerox Europe. Judy and her team developed and implemented a highly successful strategy to provide industry-focused, full-service solutions to the European financial services industry. Previously, she held various senior positions in the United States, including VPGM, head of strategy and planning and various marketing and sales leadership roles.
Judy holds an MBA from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science degree in business and marketing from Marian College, Butler University.
